MONSOON SEASON ARRIVES—HEAVY RAINS FOLLOW
Monsoons are the annual winds and rains that often cause severe weather conditions in southern California. Although these storms are infrequent, they can cause significant damage, including flooding, during the few days per year that they are here.
In the present case, heavy winds and rain, lighting and even hail caused trees and power lines to crash down. Even in areas spared the worst of the storms, triple digits spread throughout the region along with high humidity.
Damage included a torn-apart hangar at Montgomery Field in Sierra Mesa, loss of power to about 18,000 homes and localized flooding.
