Because we like sharing stories about good people doing good things, we’re happy to share the news of a local organization that’s installing free smoke alarms for seniors. THE BURN INSTITUTE OFFERS FREE SMOKE ALARMS FOR SENIORSThis non-profit health agency in Imperial County is working with the Red Cross to install the smoke alarms in the homes of seniors 62 or older and who own their own homes.
Burn Institute volunteers will also work with senior residents to show them how to safely evacuate their homes in the event of a fire. According to recent data, having properly working smoke alarms cuts your chances of dying in a house fire by 50%.
