On this space, we’ve provided numerous tips for cleaning and maintaining the carpet in your home and office. In this issue, though, we’ll turn our attention to cleaning the carpet in your car or truck.
We spend so much time in our vehicles, so it’s important that we keep it clean – for it looks and our health!
TIPS FOR CLEANING YOUR VEHICLE’S CARPETGet rid of all the trash!
One of the major differences in cleaning your vehicle is that the carpeted areas are usually in cramped spaces. So, to get started, get everything that is loose out of your vehicle. This includes your personal items, CDs (who buys CDs anymore?), candy, etc. By giving yourself a bit of room and getting all the loose items out of the way, cleaning your vehicle should be much easier.
Act quick with stains.
Coffee and soda spills require fast action! The faster you act, the easier it will be to get rid of them. Your best course of action is simply dilute the spill – just damp the stain with cool water and blot it with a paper towel or clean cloth.
For the stains that have already set in, one good trade secret is to soak the stain in glass cleaner. After you let it sit for 5 minutes, just blot the stain.
Get thee to a vacuum!
Now that you have all the loose stuff out of the way, use a vacuum to get rid of the remaining loose debris.
If you’ve got a particularly stubborn odor, put down a very thin layer of baking soda on the carpeting and let it sit for about a half hour before vacuuming.
Don’t forget about the floor mats!
Whether you have rubber or carpeted floor mats, they still need cleaning. For the carpeted mats, just vacuum them when you vacuum the rest of the carpeting. The rubber mats merely need a bit of soap and water to clean.
