How does J&M Keystone, a professional mold remediation company in San Diego, safely remove mold from your home if you have experienced a flood? Can you apply the same techniques yourself and get the same results?
Theoretically, it is possible for a homeowner to safely remove mold from a home after a flood. However, the knowledge, skill and expertise required to safely remove mold means that it is not simple or easy to do so. Most people will save a great deal of money and time by hiring an expert rather than doing the work themselves.
What Happens When You Remove Mold From My Home?
As soon as we arrive, we assess the level of damage to your home. After a significant flood, mold may not be your only problem. Your home’s very structure may have been affected by the flooding, so it is very important to inspect carefully and make sure your home is safe for you to inhabit after cleanup.
Once we have determined that mold remediation is what your home requires, we begin the cleanup process.
First, we remove any saturated carpet that may be harboring mold. Sometimes it is possible to save carpeting, but once water has penetrated the padding, it is usually best to replace carpet, as mold can live in this environment successfully for a long time. We wrap the pieces of carpet carefully in order to keep the mold spores from accidentally spreading and remove it from your home.
Once we have the room cleared, we seal it using plastic and other materials over doors and windows to prevent the spread of mold, particularly through your HVAC system or by air currents traveling through the room. We wear respiratory protection during this process to avoid health problems.
We then assess the need to open walls to remove mold infestations and allow air to circulate behind wall board. In some cases, water has only penetrated a few inches into the room. If that is the case, we may be able to remove a few inches of wall from the floor up and vent through a “chimney cut” in the top of the wall. We also use special fans to circulate air in a concentrated space, drying out the area quickly and preventing the spread of mold spores.
If you are facing a large mold infestation or possible mold growth after a flood, contact J&M Keystone in San Diego immediately. We have the tools and techniques to remove mold safely and effectively.
