THE 411 ON MAINTAINING YOUR MARBLE FLOOR

Marble flooring can really make your house stand out. As a flooring material, marble is absolutely gorgeous to look at and feels soothing to the foot. Marble flooring is also exceptionally resilient and can last quite a long time due to its ability to withstand tremendous amounts of external pressure. In this article, we’re going to share a few tips for keeping your marble flooring in tip-top shape.

• Avoid scouring powders or alkaline-based products because of their reliance upon small abrasive particles that can scratch up your marble flooring quite extensively. Remember to use only cleaners that are acid-free and a neutral pH.
• When mopping, if you can’t find a neutral pH cleaner, your floor will be just fine with warm water. For drying, simply use an untreated soft cloth and then let your floor air dry.
• Never – and we mean NEVER – use a vacuum cleaner on your marble floor. We love vacuums but the wheels and other plastic and metal materials on your vacuum can severely scratch a marble floor. Instead, you should use a dry sweeper to remove any dust or dirt.
• Removing stains from your marble flooring calls for baking soda and water. First, simply blot the stain with warm water to remove as much of the stain as possible. Next, spray the stain with water and pour baking soda over it. Let it sit overnight, then remove the dried baking soda with mild, soapy water.
