building built on a slope with a basement and a back wall uphill that
is 12 feet or so below ground level and has been kept moist with
landscape irrigation water. Warm and humid air outdoors gets to the
wall that has a surface temperature that is much cooler than the
surrounding air and the likely result is; mold is growing somewhere,
paper and cardboard make a wonderful food source for mold growth. This
principle also applies to deep crawlspaces and sometimes to the slab
itself.
