We’ve talked before about how vacuuming extends the life of your carpeting investment and how often you should do it.
In this issue, we’ll share tips for getting the most out of your vacuuming time. After all, you’re the one putting in the sweat equity, so it only makes sense to take the steps to make it count.
GETTING THE MOST FROM YOUR VACUUMINGDUSTING FIRST IS GOOD FOR CLEANING “TOP TO BOTTOM.”It may sound like an extra bit of work but dusting before you vacuum means that your newly-vacuumed floor won’t get dusty. A good way to do this is to use the crevice tool that comes with most vacuums.
PUT LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT.By turning on the light over the carpet, you’ll be much better able to see small things like crumbs and have a better view of the areas you’ve already vacuumed.
GO OVER AREAS MORE THAN ONCE.The best way to vacuum a room is to begin at one corner and work across horizontally.
MOVE THE VACUUM HEAD OVER THE SAME SPOTS BUT FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES.In addition to going over the same areas multiple times, it’s also important to attack areas from different angles. You’d be surprised at how easily things like dirt particles and pet hair are picked up more easily when the vacuum head is at a particular angle.
BE SURE THAT THE VACUUM FILTER IS CLEAN.If the filter is not clean, all of your vacuuming efforts could go in vain. Different vacuums come with different filters (built-in, disposable, washable), so check the user’s guide that came with your vacuum.
